The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry yesterday recommended taking stringent punitive actions against those involved in stealing fertilizer from a godown at Bhairab in Kishorganj, reports BSS.
It also recommended taking necessary steps so that so suck incident take place in future.
The parliamentary body made the recommendations at its 12th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with Committee Chairman M Maqbul Hossain in the chair, said an official release.
Committee members Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, M Moslem Uddin, Abdul Mannan, M Nazrul Islam Babu, M Mamunur Rashid Kiron, M Nurul Islam Omar and Advocate Umme Kulsul Smrity took part in the meeting, said an official release.
The committee asked the authorities to inform in the next meeting whether the officials under agriculture minister, after taking training abroad, are applying their knowledge in departmental activities.
It suggested taking steps to sell all inoperative vehicles belonging to different agencies under agriculture ministry by June 2016.
The parliamentary body recommended the agriculture ministry to strengthen monitoring so that any harmful germ can enter the country with the luggage of people coming from abroad to harm crops.
Secretary of agriculture ministry and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
