Tashfiq Bin Maksud
You never truly embrace the importance of your loved ones until a time of peril. At times like that, you start to question your patience and endurance to overcome the unsettling situation. But we often end up damaging our bonds, thanks to anger and anxiety.
In dark times, it often becomes too cloudy to choose right from wrong. It is our human nature to trust our gut at such times, but we can hardly accept the fact that sometimes our sixth sense, or whatever you call it, can lead to a disastrous outcome. This, however, is most applicable when you put your ego before love and fairness.
Ego can sever the bonds between you and the people you care about the most. It makes you see their flaws rather than their qualities, not to mention their compassion for you. Depression kicks in, which results in losing everything that matters to you. Your hobbies, skills, focus and even your loved ones. You’ll start to blame your luck, and even go further to blame the people around you, for which you are clearly responsible. But pointing fingers won’t help. You can scream all you want, but no one will hear you, for all you have around you is a vast void.
You can be all by yourself wondering what went wrong and how you ended up in this situation and hope for a miracle to happen, or you can send out signals for someone to see and rescue you by crossing the very void you created.
Accept the fact that bonds are much more valuable than your ego. Trust the people who care about you and love you. What they say might hurt you at times, but they are only human, and humans are known to make mistakes quiet often. Don’t cast yourself away from these people. Don’t float to the stranded singularity where you can only contemplate what you have lost and have nothing to accomplish. Because even at your dire moments, these people are the ones who will pull you up and push you to your goal.
Never fail to return the favour. Give your all to keep your promises and see them through their dangers. And most importantly, never fail to overlook their flaws and appreciate their love as they, undoubtedly, never fail to see yours _ which is the reason why they are still there for you.
Tashfiq completed his HSC exams this year.
