Square Hospitals fined for irregularities

Square Hospitals was fined Tk 2.65 lakh yesterday after a mobile court of Rapid Acton Battalion (RAB) found massive irregularities at the healthcare facility.  
The mobile court raided the hospital for two hours between 12:30pm and 2:30pm and found that the renowned healthcare institution do not have licences for running its Intensive Car Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), NICU, HDU, and dialysis unit.
The court also found the hospital has been operating without licences for medical devices and surgical apparatus.
RAB-2 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed said the court also found that the Square Hospitals authorities did not renew its licence for blood bank for the last two years.
The hospital authorities have also flouted the existing law and have been running a 365-bed hospital despite having approval for 300 beds. They could not show any approval for the extended 65 beds, the RAB official said.
Even, the hospital has been manufacturing and selling food items at its canteen without availing any licence, he said.
In 2012, Department of Environment (DoE) fined the hospital Tk 5 lakh for causing sound pollution. According to the environment act, sound level in the hospital area should be 35 decibel.
But the DoE found that the hospital's 1000-KVA capacity generator was making sound between 65 to 73 decibels.
