Crime syndicate vanishes with Tk50 lakh in Sirajganj

 A crime syndicate has vanished with about Tk 50 lakhs of the people of Ullapara and Shahzadpur upazila in the name of selling products online.
Meanwhile, several cases have been filed at a court in Sirajganj accusing three members of the syndicate. A general diary has also been filed with Ullapara police station in this connection.  Victims said one Abdul Hannan Sarker of the agriculture office in Ullapara, his son Tusar and daughter Rani Khatun rented a house at Jhikira in Ullapara upazila town six months ago and opened their office and showroom for selling different types of products online.
They had displayed there some valuable products like TV, refrigerator, electric oven, washing machine etc in a bid to attract the attention of the general public. They also had campaigned to familiarise consumers with their products through attractive posters, leaflets, advertisements and signboards in the area.
 Sources said the syndicate took around Tk 15.30 lakh from one Atiqur Rahman, Tk 1.60 lakh from Shanta Islam, Tk 8 lakh from Ismail Hossain, Tk 11 lakh from Abdul Momin, Tk 2 lakh from Saidul Islam, Tk 50,000 from Ayub Ali in Ullapara and around Tk 10 lakh from some people of Chinadhukuria village in Shahzadpur upazila. Thus they collected about Tk 50 lakh in the name of selling products online.
However, efforts are underway to get refund of the money from accused Hannan and his associates.
