The High Court yesterday (Wednesday) deferred till December 14 the order on a revision petition seeking further probe into the Narayanganj seven-murder case.
An HC bench, comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain, deferred the date as the petitioner did not submit the documents of a magistrate's court order that had rejected a no-confidence plea, Deputy Attorney General Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir told reporters.
On November 29, Selina Hossain Beauty, wife of the slain councillor, Nazrul Islam, had filed a petition before the High Court seeking further probe into the case.
Selina had filed a case against six persons, while advocate Chandan Sarker’s son-in-law had filed another case.
On April 8 this year, detectives pressed charges against 35 people, including three sacked Rapid Action Battalion officers — Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Cdr MM Rana — and Nur Hossain, in connection with the seven-murder case.
On May 11, Selina filed a naraji petition, expressing dissatisfaction over exclusion of the names of the five accused listed in the FIR from the chargesheet. However, the court rejected the petition on November 9.
On July 8, a Narayanganj court accepted the chargesheet in the two cases filed in connection with the seven murders.
On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from the Fatullah area of Narayanganj.
The same day, Chandan Kumar Sarker, a senior lawyer at the district judge’s court, and his driver were also kidnapped on their way to Dhaka.
The bodies of the six people, including those of Nazrul and Chandan Sarker, were fished out from the Shitalakhya river on April 30.
The following day, the body of Jahangir, the driver of Nazrul Islam, was also found floating in the river.
