Inflation eases in Nov

STAFF REPORTER

The country’s general point-to-point inflation rate recorded a downward trend, as it fell to 6.05 per cent in November from 6.19 per cent in October, with both food and non-food inflation rates witnessing a downtrend.
“The general point-to-point inflation rate in November further eased to 6.05 per cent,” said planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal after releasing the monthly consumer price index at a press meet held at the NEC conference room in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar yesterday.
The minister said inflation had been at its lowest this November in the current fiscal year, with a fall in the prices of winter vegetables and pulse due to sufficient supply. “If the supply chain remains stable without any abnormal incidents, the trend of inflation will remain stable and reduce further in the future,” he added. Kamal also said that the general point-to-point inflation rate this July was 6.36 per cent, followed by 6.17 per cent in August, and 6.24 per cent in September.
The average year-on-year rate of inflation from December 2014 to November 2015 stood at 6.20 per cent. It was 7.09 per cent from December 2013 to November 2014.
Not only the general inflation rate but both food and the non-food inflation rates also showed a declining trend in November. Food inflation at the national level stood at 5.72 per cent in November, down from 5.89 per cent in October; while inflation in non-food items, which was 6.67 per cent in October, decreased to 6.56 per cent in November.
Besides, the general inflation rate in urban and rural areas decreased in November this year. The general inflation rate at the urban level was 6.88 per cent last month against 6.91 per cent in October. In rural areas, it was 5.61 per cent last month against 5.82 per cent in October.
In urban areas, food inflation came down to 7.42 per cent in November from 7.44 per cent in October, while the non-food inflation rate also decreased to 6.29 per cent in November from 6.33 per cent in October. In rural areas, food inflation also declined to 5 per cent in November from 5.23 per cent in the previous month, while the non-food inflation was 6.76 per cent in November against 6.90 per cent in October.
