The death of five-year-old boy Nirab, whose body was recovered from the Buriganga River after he fell into a sewer in the capital’s Shyampur area on Tuesday, was caused by drowning, said the autopsy report yesterday, reports UNB.
Dr Kazi Abu Sama, the head of Forensic Department of Shaka Medical College Hospital, said doctors found water in his stomach and he died within half-an-hour of drowning. After the autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Nirab’s body was handed over to his family members around 11 am yesterday. Doctors at the DMCH declared him dead when he was taken to the hospital after being rescued from the Buriganga River on Tuesday. Fire Service divers rescued Nirab from the river at Palpara, around 2 kilometres off the manhole, around 8:20 pm.
Nirab, son of Rezaul of Shyampur area, slipped into the sewer near Shyampur Jagarani Club around 4:20 pm as he was playing there with two other kids.
