The first death anniversary of Mahbubul Alam, a former editor of The Independent, was observed with due solemnity and respect yesterday. The Independent family organised a ‘Dua Mahfil’ at its office in the capital’s Tejgaon area on the occasion of its former editor’s death anniversary. Members of The Independent family and Beximco Media attended the prayers and sought salvation and eternal peace for the departed soul of Mahbubur Rahman. Among others, editor of The Independent M Shamsur Rahman was present on the occasion. Alam, also a former caretaker government adviser, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on June 6 last year at the age of 78. Born in 1936 in Munsiganj, Alam started his journalism career with the Associated Press of Pakistan in 1957, and he went on retirement in 2013 after serving The Independent as the editor for 18 years.
