Gender sensitive media reporting stressed

Gender-sensitive media reporting can help establish rights of the schoolgirls through reducing violence and repression against them, speakers at a discussion said yesterday, reports BSS from Rajshahi. They said the working journalists need to play a major role filing gender-sensitive reports in the process of eliminating sexual harassment against girls as the objective reporting could be the effective means of eliminating existing barriers for establishing gender parity. They were addressing a gender training programme for the journalists. Meyeder Janya Nirapad Nagarikatwa of Brac organised the programme under its Gender Justice and Diversity project to formulate a set of recommendations on how to expedite the work for combating sexual harassment against the schoolgirls. The training styled Raise voice to eliminate sexual harassment against schoolgirls held at Brac Learning Center in the city.
Main thrust of the training was to sensitize and inspire media professionals on gender and women right issues to contribute in writing reports and features and to disseminate information on gender and women right issues. Senior Sector Specialist Jhorna Rani Das, Senior Gender Trainer Bipasha Rahman, Sector Specialist Firoj Kabir and Junior Sector Specialist Ruhul Amin conducted different sessions of the training as resource persons.
