Ctg face survival battle against Dhaka

Hafeez likely to make BPL debut for Dynamites today
Sports Reporter

Battle for survival reaches fever pitch as Dhaka Dynamites will take on Chittagong Vikings today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. For both of them, the match would be crucial one to stay alive in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Dynamites were favourite to play the play-off match without any trouble initially but three consecutive defeats in the last three matches made the equation complicated for them.
A defeat against Chittagong though wouldn’t completely ruin their hope to move into the last-four, they would be thrown in further troublesome position, knowing that Sylhet Super Stars slowly gained their form. While Dhaka would have a hope in case of a defeat, Vikings journey towards the last-four will be officially ended should they lose in today’s game. Vikings now have four points in eight matches while Dhaka have six in seven matches.
Dhaka’s form suddenly took a nosedive specially after their batsmen failed to prop up their game. The batting mainstay remains captain Kumar Sangakkara and he was supposed to aided by team’s Icon Nasir Hossain but the latter’s form has been troublesome. Nasir is yet to prove his reputation as the finisher what he was adoringly called by his national teammates.
Nasir had the great platform to show his credential as finisher in the last match when Dhaka Dynamites fell into a deep problem by losing its captain Sangakkara who was trapped run-out against Rangpur Riders. There are still a considerable amount of overs left to make impact. Nasir was there and onus was left on him to take the side in a good position. He however failed to deliver as it mattered most. Even though he was the top scorer of the team with 30, expectation was to convert the start into a healthy score to which he failed to respond. However the inclusion of Pakistan recruit Mohammad Hafeez should give the struggling batting line up an impetus. Hafeez is expected to make his debut in BPL-3 today.
While the batsmen’s form remained erratic, the bowlers so far lived up to the billings. They bowled well in tandem led by awesome Mustafizur Rahman who carried his international cricket form into the BPL. Every time he came to ball, it seemed the wicket would be fallen. He not only enhanced his reputation as wicket-taking bowler but also remained economical. Hitting him all corner of the park by no means an easy task. Alongside him, Abul Hasan Raju also prospered in intriguing fashion and took wickets regularly. Dhaka also recruited Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan, the tallest bowler of the world. On his first match in BPL, Irfan proved he could be handy in this surface.
