Construction of BGB camp protested

People of Gobratala union in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila yesterday formed a human chain protesting construction of a BGB camp of the newly formed 59 battalion on a fertile land.
They also staged a rally in protest against the construction.
The human chain was formed under the banner of ‘Krishi Bhumi Rakkha Committee.’
During the hour-long programme, convener of the committee Elias Ali, farmers Abdul Bari and Palash Ali spoke at the gathering.
The speakers said the new camp is being constructed on 75 bighas of land at Harirampur; but this land is so fertile that four crops are grown there every year. If this land is occupied for the construction of the camp, people will be deprived of growing 3,000 maunds of paddy and a large quantity of mango, they added.
