Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday asked the Accord and Alliance to complete their inspection of garment factories by July, 2016 as the government would not extend the time further, reports BSS.
“Time would not be extended for the inspection of factories by the Accord and Alliance after July 2018 as the overall work environment of garment factories, including fire safety, have been improved significantly,” he said while speaking at the opening of ‘The 3rd International Trade Expo for Building and Fire Safety Fair‘ at BICC in the city.
The Commerce Minister said the garment workers are now working in a safer and work-friendly environment. Many countries had got negative impression after Tajnim and Rana Plaza incidents but Bangladesh has been able to overcome the situation with public and private initiatives.
