Handloom workers protest wages cut

STAFF CORRESPONDENT, Sirajganj

Several hundred handloom and power-loom workers staged demonstration in Sirajganj town yesterday protesting frequent reduction of their wages. The demonstrators brought out a procession from Chowrasta intersection in the town and ended it at the premises of deputy commissioner’s office. The speakers said factory owners arbitrarily cut their wages on the plea of market downturn. The demonstrators demanded reasonable wages and warned that they would launch tougher agitation and call strike if the handloom owners continued to cut wages whimsically.
