1.5 kg heroin seized
Police in a drive seized 1.5 kg heroin from Dayingpara Graveyard area of Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on Sunday night. SM Abu Farhad, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, said police chased a motorcycle in the area around 7pm. However, the bikers managed to flee from the area, leaving a bag behind. Later, police recovered the heroin packed in 15 polythene bags. A case was filed in this connection.

Fire scare hurts 20 in RMG factory

At least 20 garment workers were injured in a fire panic in a garment factory in Ulail area beside Dhaka-Aricha highway on Monday morning. Farhad Hossain, assistant deputy manager of Al-Muslim Garment factory, said the fire broke out on the 11th floor of the factory in the morning from an electric short circuit and extinguished within 2/3 minutes. As the news spread around, workers of the factory, where 20,000 people are employed, started scrambling down the stairs, leaving 20 of them injured. Later, the workers blocked the highway which halted vehicular movement on the highway On information, a team of Savar Model Police Station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Abducted boy rescued

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive rescued a boy, who was abducted from Narayanganj on November 20, from Sukrobari Bazar area of Jaintapur upazila on Sunday evening, The rescued was identified Mohammad Sohel Khan, 14, son of Alhed Ali Chowdhury, hailing from Fatullah upazila in Narayanganj. Rab also arrested an alleged abductor Mohammad Faruk Miah, son of Ahmed Ali Chwodhury, a resident of No 6 Chiknaguler Thaker Math village of Jaintapur upazila. Faruk abducted Sohel from Chittagong Road area in Fatullah around 8:30pm on November 20. Later he demanded ransom from Sohel’s family members.
A case was filed in this connection. On secret information, members of the elite force conducted a drive in a pharmacy in Sukrobari Bazar area of Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet around 6:30pm and rescued Sohel. They also arrested Faruk in this connection. Later, Faruk was handed over to Jaintapur Police Station.

4 get Kazi  Mahbubullah  Award

Four eminent personalities have been selected for ‘Kazi Mahbubullah Award 2015’ of Begum Zebunnessa and Kazi Mahbubullah Janakalyan Trust this year for their contribution in respective fields, says a press release The award recipients are Anisul Hoque for literature and journalism; Haseena Khan, professor of Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Dhaka University, for science; Bangladesh National Cricket Team captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza for sports; Emeritus Professor AK Azad Chowdhury of Dhaka University and former chairman of University of Grants Commission, for in promoting higher education. They will be given crests, certificates and a cheque for Tk 1 lakh each.
