Rangpur Riders secured a facile six-wicket win over Dhaka Dynamites, displaying an outright supremacy in every sector in their BPL match yesterday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The fifth victory in the eighth match, propelled Shakib Al Hasan’s side to the second position behind Comilla Victorians, leaving Dynamites who has six points in seven matches, in uncomfortable situation. Dhaka Dynamites compiled 135 for seven, recovering from a shaky start but the highly-acclaimed bowling line up couldn’t live up to the billings as Riders comfortably chased down the target with 10 balls to spare.
Jahurul Islam Omee was the unlikely hero in the match, hitting 35 off 26 with four boundaries. He was aided by Darren Sammy’s (23) assured presence t in the wicket. They came together in a moment when Dynamites were slowly but surely limping back to the game, taking the big wicket of Shakib Al Hasan. Pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman paved the platform of clawing back, bowling accurately and made the batsmen eating up dot balls.
While he was excellent in his effort, the other bowlers were erratic as Omee and Sammy started dominating them effortlessly. They shifted the momentum in the 14th and 15th over in which they collected 31 which effectively took the side on the verge of victory.
Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan, the tallest bowler of the world, dismissed Sammy in the next over but that hardly could make any impact on the match.
Dhaka’s start however was stark contrast to what happened at the last. Two run-out dismissals of Shadman Islam and captain Kumar Sangakkara cost Dynamites dearly given the fact that both of them were well set and fluent.
Opener Shadman got off to a bustling start before being trapped run out for 16 which indeed sparked the collapse and soon they were left three for 39. Sangakkara and Nasir seemed to have revived the innings but the former’s dismissal effectively dashed Dhaka’s hope of a big score as Nasir’s dismal form was continuing. Nasir still was the top scorer with 30 but the team needed big score from him specially when Sangakkara failed to deliver.
