About 700 businessmen at Hatgopalpur Bazaar in Sadar upazila of Jhenidah have called an indefinite strike protesting attack on business establishments and 10 human haulers by local criminals during a melee following a football match on Saturday night. The wildcat strike at a business hub has put thousands of people in a difficult situation. Chairman of Padmakar union parishad Bikash Kumar Sarkar said, centering a football match a gang of unidentified criminals from neighboring villages swooped on three business shops -- Rafi Enterprise, Hannan Electric and Bisharat Tailors -- and vandalised 10 human haulers on Saturday night. The gang looted cash and goods from the shops. Protesting the attack and looting of business establishments, Hatgopalpur Bazaar Banik Samity on Sunday the called indefinite stoppage. SAG Milton Ahmed, secretary of Hatgopalpur Bazaar Banik Samity, demanded punishment to the attackers, who had without any provocation swooped on the business establishments and looted their property. Officer in-charge of Jhenidah sadar police station Hasan Hafizure Rahman, acknowledged the incident and said they are trying to solve the problem.
