RUET gets 2 new departments
RAJSHAHI: Two new more departments were opened in Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) to meet the demands of present time. The new departments are-- Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Chemical and Food Process Engineering (CFPE), a RUET press release here said yesterday. ECE has been included in Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty. This department will begin its journey amid admission of 60 brilliant students in the current 2015-16 academic year. It is expected to become capable of generating skilled human resources in the field of ICT. Meanwhile, CFPE has been incorporated in the faculty of Mechanical Engineering which is set to begin its journey through admission of 30 talented students in the current year. It is also expected that the department will play an effective role towards producing competent manpower in the field of food processing in the country. Relating to opening of the two new departments Vice-chancellor Rafiqul Alam Beg said the country is going towards digitization with competent leadership of the present government. So, the new departments will supplement the government endeavors. Besides, the initiative will play due role towards innovating time-befitting technology in terms of safe food preservation and processing, he added.
French envoy visits NSU
A team of French Embassy, led by France Ambassador to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert, visited North South University (NSU) campus yesterday, says a press release. There was a bilateral meeting held between team of NSU authority, administrators and French delegation where they discussed about various opportunities available for international students on higher studies.
BSMRMU holds 6th academic council meet
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU), held its 6th academic council meeting yesterday, says a press release. The meeting was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university Rear Admiral ASM Abdul Baten and attended by the academic council members of the university. The meeting took place on the university’s temporary campus at Pallabi, Mirpur-12. Various development matters of the university were discussed in the meeting. Mentionable are, conversion of Marine Academy’s 3 years BMS course into 4 year BMS (Honors) course, allowable attendance rate of the students, examinations rules, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with different universities from home and abroad etc. Besides, opening of new faculties and departments for accelerating the pace of maritime education were also discussed in the meeting.
Seminar on women’s empowerment held
The Department of Applied Sociology, ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) organised a seminar on women’s empowerment on Saturday at ASAUB conference room. The titled of the seminar was ‘Our Values, Our Lives: A Different Perspective on Household Work’. Md Muinuddin Khan, adviser of ASAUB, was the chief guest while M Aminul Islam, chairman, Department of Applied Sociology, ASAUB, presided over the programme. Debra Efromysom, regional director, HealthBridge Foundation of Canada, was the key-note speaker in the seminar. The programme was supported by Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust (WBB). The speakers said women in Bangladesh work 17 hours per day on an average. Most of these works are household chores. But they do not get any recognition from their family and society as well. Government may recognize their household works as a part of GDP. Speakers emphasised that change of attitude towards women’s household work can enrich women’s position in the society. Abu Daud Hasan, dean of Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, ASAUB, Naznin Kabir, deputy program manager, Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust (WBB), also spoke in the seminar. Faculties and students from Department of Applied Sociology, officials of ASAUB and Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust (WBB) were also present in the program.
Workshop on public speaking and debate held
SAVAR: A workshop on ‘public speaking and debate’ was held at Social Science faculty of Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Saturday. Rotaract Club of JU organised the workshop while Associate Professor of JU also Ex. Rtr PP Md Kabirul Bashar inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest and Engr. Shah Md Takvir, District Rotaract Representative of Bangladesh as special guest. Rashid Nahian, the co-ordinator of the function addressed while Mashahed Hasan simanta, the youngest professional trainer in Bangladesh and Shaikh Siraj Md Asker, Director General of JU Model United Nations Association and Mubtasin Kabir, president of IBA-JU presented their respective key notes about Public speaking and debate. Later, certificates have provided to participants. Among others President of Rotaract Club of Jahangirnagar Towhidul Islam and Secretary Kishor Biswas were present in the function. Rotary International is an international service organisation whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
Int’l Day of Persons with Disabilities observed
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities-2015 on its campus on Saturday to help protect the rights of disabled persons. Physically Challenged Development Foundation (PDF), a voluntary organisation works to protect the rights of persons with disabilities, JU branch brought out a procession from central Shaheed Minar premises which was terminated on Amar Ekushe premises after parading main streets of the campus. Earlier, a short discussion meeting was held at Shaheed Minar premises while Chief Advisor of JU PDF ATM Atiqur Rahman addressed the function as chief guest. Presided over by President of JU PDF Kawser Hamid and conducted by Secretary Md Sumon Ali, Professor of JU Physics department AA Mamun, Assistant Professor of Institute of Business Administration (IBA-JU) Aireen Akhter, Chairman of JU Law and Justice Department Md Rabiul Islam and Vice President of PDF central committee Ikhtiyarul Arefeen addressed the function, among others.
The speakers urged everyone to come forward for building a disabled friendly university as well as the country.
