Tk 915 cr power distribution project in the offing

A new power distribution project titled “Power Distribution Development Project, Rajshahi Zone” at a cost of Tk. 915 crore is going to be implemented in Rajshahi region under Power Development Board (PDB). Under this project, works of new power cables and lines of 1,375 kilometres and renovation of electric power cables and lines of 1,808 kilometres will be done, said PDB officials. As a result of renovation of power cables and setting up of new power lines, 775 megawatt electricity load will be increased and system loss will be decreased by four percent, they added. Beginning in July 2015 with the main thrust of improving overall power supply in the zone, the project will be fully implemented by December 2018.
It is learnt that the PDB will implement the project in 60 upazilas of eight districts of the zone. Of the total Tk 915 crore project cost, the government will provide Tk. 880 crore while the PDB will bear Tk. 35 crore from its own resources.
Masud Al Faruque, additional chief engineer of PDB, Rajshahi, informed that some five lakh customers will get power supply in several phases within 2015. He further informed that 952 new transformers will be procured and 638 transformers will be repaired alongside acquiring 11 acres of land and developing 49,150 cubic metres. Also 30 kilometres 33kv, 11kv, .04 kv synchronized power cables respectively will be set up. Apart from this, 33 kv new lines on 221 kilometres and 33 kv lines on 218 kilometers, 11 kv new lines on 341 kilometers and 33kv lines on 375 kilometres respectively will be renovated. New electric supply sub-centres will be established and old sub¬-centres will be renovated and old transformers will be replaced by new ones or repaired, the PDB official added.
