Barisal Bulls skipper Mahmudullah Riyad urged the batsmen to step up after blaming the batting approach for being all out for BPL lowest 59. They finally tasted a humiliating nine-wicket defeat to Sylhet Super Stars yesterday.
“We’ve batted well in the last two matches. We did the worst in this match, it might be happened in T20 cricket but we have to step up,” Riyad told the reporters after the match.
“Our bowling department has consistently been doing well. The team will be better if batsmen could consistently perform,” he added.
The icon of Barisal Bulls said that they lost their wickets in quickest possible way in order to increase the run-rate.
“We’ve played very bad. It was a worst batting display, I admit. I think one or two match could go such way in T20 cricket. The wicket at initial stage was stiff, had a bit bounce. But we will not tell that wicket was very bad. In early stage of the match, all we tried to increase the run-rate. In Twenty20, it’s important. That’s why, we started losing wickets,” he opined.
Riyad however wasn’t worried about Chris Gayle who made just eight. He said a player of Gayle’s stature can damage any bowling at any time.
“He came back from long injury lay-off. Probably this is his first match after injury. All we know how much capable he is in his day. He can destroy any team. We’re still hopeful. He’ll come back soon.”
About Sabbir, Ryad said, “We’re still hopeful about him. He himself is working hard. A better innings can boost him and make him more confident.”
The skipper tipped Sylhet as better side, saying, “Sylhet thoroughly is a better side. They lost some close matches. The scenario would have been different if they could win these matches.”
