Dhaka Dynamites skipper Kumar Sangakkara wants the local players to fire in a bid to claw back in the contention as the third phase of the of Bangladesh Premier League is set to begin today. Dynamites will take on Rangpur Riders in the second match of the day at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at 6:30pm today.
“I think we’ve got a lot of good batsmen in the side. We just need our local boys to fire. I’ve all the confidence in my local players, which I think are the best in Bangladesh. So, I give them some opportunity and hope they would utilise it,” said Kumar Sangakkara yesterday after their pre-match day practice.
Terming Nasir Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman as pride of Bangladesh, Sangakkara said that the duo is at their peak that is helpful in their cause.
“Nasir Hossain is very good for us both in bat and bowl. I’m sure he likes to run more and finish the games. He gets that. He’s a very good player and as an icon he has to take lot of responsibility. He is one of the best players in Bangladesh.  I’m very happy to have him,” Dynamites skipper said about all-rounder Nasir.
“Mustafiz I think is very good bowler and he is only getting better because he is young. He is keen to learn. He offers variations and his inclusion is instrumental in Bangladesh’s superb move in the international cricket,” the skipper told about Mustafiz, whose name was pronounced in ICC’s ODI squad with him.
“I saw it a privilege to be named in ICC team. I think Mustafiz was fantastic claim to be named there. You know I had already finished my career. So, I’m surprised to make the list probably because I played well. A lot of great players are there I’m very happy,” the wicketkeeper-batsman, who scored 862 runs with five century, including four in World Cup, from 14 matches in the 2014-15 season, reckoned.
The left-handed batsman said he is fully satisfied with his current form and performance what he is showcasing continually. “Yeah you know the score is running. I’m very happy with the form. I mean I’m happy with the runs I am scoring,” said Sangakkara, who played BPL for the first time and scored 224 with two half centuries off six matches.
About the losing in last two matches, the 38-yeard old living legend admitted that they had some mistakes but vowed to comeback, devising the plan well.
“A magnificent innings from Lewis took the game away from us. A few mistakes from us in the chase against Comilla cost the game,” Sangakkara pointed out.
Meanwhile in the first match of the day, Sylhet Super Stars will lock horns with high-flying Barisal Bulls at the same venue at 2:00pm.
