Punishment of killers demanded

Demanding exemplary punishment to the killers of Mitu Begum, 20, a pregnant woman of Paschim Shener Tikikata village, a human chain was formed by the people at Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur yesterday morning. Hundreds of people attended the hour-long human chain programme in front of the Shaheed Miner road of the upazila headquarters. Next, a protest program was also arranged there. It was addressed, among others, by Shakil Ahmed Nawrose, Rafikul Islam Ripan, Rijan Jomadder, Kamrun Nahar Begum and Md Mainul Islam.Speakers demanded exemplary punishment to the killers of Mitu. On May 30, some criminals went to Mitu’s house to pick up one of her nieces. As she and her family members protested them, they beat her up and hacked with sharp weapons. On May 31, she died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.Locals caught the five attackers from the spot and handed them over to police on the day of the incident.Deceased’s husband Miraz Mridha filed a case with Mathbaria police station accusing twelve men of murder.
