Bangladesh Open International Badminton ends

B Sai Praneeth of India justified his top seeding when he clinched the coveted men’s singles title of Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Open International Bangladesh Challenge-2015. Praneeth defeated his compatriot Sameer Verma 21-14, 8-21, 21-18 in a fairly contested final yesterday at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital
The women’s singles title also went to India when shuttler Gadde Ruthvika Shivani earned hard fought 23-21, 19-21, 21-18 win over top seed Iris Wanf of USA.
India maintained their domination also in the men’s doubles final as its pair Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar outplayed Chee Tean Tan and Wee Gieen Tan of Malaysia 21-16, 21-16 in the final.
Thai female shuttlers Chaladchalam Chayanit and Phataimas Muenwong broke Indian monopoly when they inflicted a 21-15, 21-19 defeat on Yin Loo Lim and Meng Yean Lee of Malaysia in the women’s doubles final.
 Yong Kai Terry Hee and Wei Han Tan of Singapore bagged the mixed doubles crown beating Wee Gieen Tan and Shevon Jemie Lai of Malaysia 21-10, 19-21, 21-12 in
the final.
State minister for youth and sports Biren Shikder distributed prizes as chief guest. The singles winners received US $1225 as cash prize money. The winners of other events also earned cash rewards. Bangladesh Badminton Federation president Abdul Malek presided over the prize giving ceremony.
Despite Bangladesh shuttlers could not reach final of any event still they earned appreciation from the crowd as well as from the foreign teams for their fighting spirit.
