Youth held with 28,500 yaba pills
Police arrested a young man in possession of 28,500 pieces of yaba tablet in the capital’s Shantibagh area on Saturday morning. The arrestee was identified as Shahjalal,28. Officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station Mehedi Hasan said a team of police challenged Shahjalal in the area when he was moving suspiciously there at about 7:30 am. Later, the law enforcers recovered 28,500 pieces of yaba tablet after searching Shahjalal’s bag and arrested him. A case was filed in this connection.

Youth hacked dead in Khulna

A young man was hacked to death by miscreants in Cemetery Road of the city on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Gouranga Biswas, 26, a resident of Muripotti area of the city. Police and locals said one Shukur called Gouranga over his mobile phone and took him to a Christian graveyard in the area at about 1am. An altercation ensued between them and at one stage, Shukur hacked Gouranga with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Shafiqul Islam said locals spotted the body of Gouranga from the area and informed police at about 10am on Saturday. Police recovered the body that bore several stab marks and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Two Jamaat leaders arrested in Sylhet

Police arrested two local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami from Boni area in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar district on Friday. The arrestees were identified as Faisal Ahmad, 35, general secretary of Barlekha upazila unit of Jamaat, and Kamal Uddin, 30, president of its Boni union unit. Officer-in-charge of Barlekha Police Station Maniruzzaman said a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo at about 12:30 pm.
The arrestees were wanted in several cases with the police station, the OC added.
