Bangabandhu an icon of democracy, tweets Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday described Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as an ‘icon of democracy’. After paying tribute to the portrait of the Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmandi, Modi twitted, “Saluting an icon of democracy, a towering personality & a great friend of India, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.” He tweeted in both English and Bengali, and it instantly drew the attention of thousands of Bangladeshis and his tweeter followers across the world. In another tweet, the Indian prime minister wrote, “Presented a hand-woven tapestry from Venkatagiri, Andhra Pradesh woven in Jamdani style to PM Sheikh Hasina. Artwork in this tapestry shows Kalpavriksh tree and the Kamadhenu cow.”
After paying respect to the Liberation War martyrs at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, the 15th Prime Minister of India, who was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Mehsana district of Gujarat, twitted, “Paid tribute at the National Martyrs' Memorial.”
Welcomed warmly by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the VVIP terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Modi, who was the first to invite all SAARC leaders to attend his swearing-in ceremony on May 26, 2014, twitted, “Thank you PM Sheikh Hasina for the warm welcome. I look forward to a very good visit that will strengthen ties between India and Bangladesh.”
Before leaving India for Bangladesh on a two-day visit, Modi, who was the chief minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014, twitted, “Leaving for Bangladesh. This visit is going to strengthen the bond between our nations, benefiting people of our countries and our region. Hello Bangladesh. I bring with me the affection and goodwill of the people of India.”
Modi’s Tweet address is @narendramodi, which has 12.8 million followers.
