Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is gradually drifting toward the more exciting phase, where the fate of the franchisee will be defined and will get to know actually which team will go through the next covetous phase. The third phase of the first round will begin on December 6.
In the aftermath of the second phase, local players are at the peak in both bowling and batting department though star players like Kumar Sangakkara, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Marlon Samuels, Nuwan Kulasekara drew the attraction most.
Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan led the batting and bowling chart. Hard-hitter opener Tamim accumulated 290 runs from eight matches with three half centuries though his team managed to win just two times. His team mate Sri Lanka all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan placed second with 228 runs.
Dhaka Dynamites skipper Kumar Sangakkara is in the third position, who scored 200 plus to be placed third after Tamim and his compatriot Dilshan. Mushfiqur Rahim of Sylhet Super Stars, Mahmudullah Riyad of Barisal Bulls, Imrul Kayes of Victorians and Soumya Sarkar of Rangpur Riders are in 10-elite batsmen from local players.
On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan, skipper and icon player of Rangpur Riders, still remains the highest wicket-taker who enriched his kitty with 13 from six matches. Another local boy Abu Haider Rony, who also grabbed even number of wickets but had to be placed in second as Shakib showed better economy rate and played one match less than the former.
The ace all-rounder had chance to increase the number of wickets but he didn’t as he was suspended for one match due to his indiscipline manner with umpire.
BPL hat-trick boy Al Amin Hossain of Barisal Bulls and his teammate Kevon Cooper alongside Mohammad Amir of Chittagong Vikings scalped 11 wickets each. Al Amin played one match more than West Indies all-rounder Cooper to take these wickets. But Amir played the most eight matches to claim his wickets.
Paceman Shafiul Islam is the only bowler, who snapped up 10 wickets for Chittagong Vikings. Cutter master Mustafizur Rahman and Nuwan Kulasekara claimed nine wickets from six and five matches for Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians respectively.
Dhaka Dynamites Mosharraf Hossain, Arafat Sunny and Thisera Perera of Rangpur Riders and Mohammad Shahid of Sylhet Super Stars picked up eight scalps apiece to be included in the best 10 bowlers.
Comilla Victorians are in pole position after the end of the second phase. The team led by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza notched up 10 points from five wins in seven matches. Barisal Bulls placed second with the identical 10 points. But with better run rate Victorians are adrift than Bulls, who played of course one match less than table-topper.
Rangpur Riders became third with eight points, while Dhaka Dynamites fourth in point table with six. Chittagong Vikings averted the wooden spoon with four points and Sylhet Super Stars are in bottom place with two.
