3rd European Film Festival begins at Star Cineplex

A ten-day long film festival tilted ‘European Film Festival 2015’ began at the Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City shopping mall. As many as fifteen films from fourteen European countries are being screened at the festival. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor along with European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon and Chairman of Star Cineplex Mahbub Rahman inaugurated the festival on Wednesday. Following the inauguration ceremony, Maltese film ‘Simshar’ was screened as opening film.
The other films to be screened are—‘Win Win’ from Switzerland, ‘Paddington’ from United Kingdom, ‘Attila Marcel’ from France, ‘Atmen’ from Austria, ‘The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared’ from Sweden, ‘Finn’ from Netherlands, ‘The Agreement’ from Denmark, ‘Lessons of a Dream’ from Germany, ‘Vesna’ from Slovenia, ‘The Legend of the Flying Cyprian’ from The Slovak Republic,  ‘Before Flying Back to Earth’ from The Republic of Lithuania, ‘The Hours of the Lynx’ from Denmark and others.
Jointly arranged by the European Union and Star Cineplex, this is the third time the European Film Festival is taking place in Dhaka. The goal is to make European movies more known and more popular in this part of the world. The fact that all the movies have to be approved by Bangladesh Film Censor Board before they can be shown in public can be a challenge. Not all European movies are accepted by the board. But also this year the European countries participating in the festival managed to get one film each through the censorship.
