Dramatic win for Comilla

Comilla Victorians thumped Chittagong Vikings in a match full of drama yesterday that saw Victorians awarded five penalty runs, a first such instance in the BPL history, at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The match also forced Vikings finishing lowly at their home ground. It seemed the venue stored all sorts of drama for the last match in Chittagong with the game going from a penalty runs to late burst of Mohammad Amir and a no-ball-wicket in the first ball of the last over.
All those happenings came to an end when Shoaib Malik clubbed a six over mid-wicket fence to bring an eventful end to the match and a finish to the Chittagong phase of the BPL. Chittagong scored a fighting 136 for five which Comilla Victorians gunned down with two balls to spare. The skipper Mashrafe factor also seemingly has worked for the Victorians. Result of the match was the secondary issue on a day when the penalty-run incident hogged the limelight.  Five penalty runs were awarded to Victorians after Vikings fielder Dilshan was proved to have stopped Imrul Kayes deliberately during a single.
The drama was on as at the last over, when Victorians needed seven runs to win, Bilwal Bhatti dismissed Alok Kapali but only to his dismay it was a ‘no-ball’ as he sent down a high full toss, trying to give a yorker. Shoaib Malik, however, smacked a six over mid-wicket fence to bring up the end to an eventful match.
Malik was not out on 34 off 23, hitting two fours in addition to his winning six. Ahmed Shehzad made 37 and Kayes scored 34 adding 52 runs for the second wicket to steady the innings after surviving from the colliding issue.
Chittagong’s score seemed a fighting one given the state of the pitch even though it proved little at the end. Umar Akmal struck an unbeaten 49 off 34, hitting four fours and two sixes to shape up the innings as the other batsmen sans Tamim Iqbal struggled to tick the scoreboard rapidly in the sustained aggression of the Comilla bowlers.
