Guardians wanting to admit their children to government schools for the 2016 session are clueless and having a tough time filling up forms in the absence of clear guidelines on the admission website.
Some guardians alleged that they could not find the list of the clusters of 38 government schools located in the Dhaka metropolitan area on the admission website http://www.gsa.teletalk.com.bd/. As a result, they did not know under which clusters the schools had been categorised.
Most of the guardians have applied only for schools under the category of each thana that contains names of schools on the admission website.
Guardians are confused about the category under which they have applied as the list of clusters was not found on the website since the online admission began on December 1. It was inaugurated by education minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
If a number of applications are submitted for one category, they will be rejected. The exams of each group will be held on a single day.
As per the admission circular, the 38 government schools in the Dhaka metropolitan area have been categorised under three clusters – Group A has 13 schools, Group B, 13 schools and Group C, 12 schools.
A candidate can apply to one school from each group. This means an admission seeker can apply to a maximum of three schools, one each from the three groups.
In the absence of the group lists on the website, guardians are worried as they are not sure whether they have applied for three schools in the same group or under different groups.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (DSHE) sources said around 16,000 applications had been submitted online till 7pm on Wednesday.
Some DSHE officials said they had uploaded the list of clusters of schools on its websitehttp://www.dshe.gov.bd/ under the secondary circular, but did not do it on the admission website.
Asked how a guardian will come to know about the list when there is no indication of it on the admission website, the DSHE officials parried the question, saying they have done their job by uploading it on their official website.
Prof Dr SM Wahiduzzaman, director (college and administration) of the DSHE, said he had asked persons concerned in teletlak who are operating the admission site. “I assure everyone the matter will be solved. If it causes any suffering to admission seekers, we will sort it out,” he added.
However, aggrieved parents and guardians said the authorities should have been more careful in making the guidelines on the website.
“For my kid, I filled up forms for three schools found on the admission website, but I am absolutely confused about the category under which the schools have been included,” Rehena Begum said.
The exams of the schools under Group A will be held on December 17, Group B on December 18 and Group C on December 19.
