Theatre (Bailey Road) will stage the monodrama ‘Kokilara’ today at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), as an opening play of the weeklong festival titled ‘Theatre Week 2015’, which has been organised by the country’s one of the popular theatre troupes ‘Theatre’. ‘Kokilara’ is a monologue of a poor girl, who arrives in the city from a remote area and comes face to face with the hardship of living in an urban area. The girl, Kokila, is abused by one of her landlords, while the others ironically take stands against her. Written and directed by late theatre personality Abdullah Al Mamun, the play performed by seasoned actress Ferdousi Majumdar has been recreated and designed by Sudip Chakraborty. Apart from redesigning, Chakraborty also did the light design for the play.
With the slogan ‘Sobar Opor Jibon Sotyo’, theatre week of this year has been dedicated to four veteran theatre activists named Munier Choudhury, Kabir Chowdhury, Abdullah Al-Mamun and Muhammad Zakaria. Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman will inaugurate the theatre week today at 6pm, while theatre personality Ataur Rahman, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will be present, among others, at the event. The weeklong event will feature a number of seven plays by the host troupe Theatre, followed by Muhammad Zakaria memorial award giving ceremony and Munier Choudhury Honourary Award.
