Babul Hossain, the ruling Awami League’s mayoral candidate in Arani municipality polls, has reportedly died after having excessive liquor out of ‘overenthusiasm’, reports UNB. Wishing anonymity, several local AL leaders said Babul along with his some followers took excessive liquor on Wednesday night after collecting the party nomination paper from the district party office, and fell sick. He was first taken to Bagha Upazila Health Complex yesterday where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). The 50-year-old mayoral hopeful was taken to the intensive care unit of RMCH around 11am. However, he died at the hospital around 2:20pm. About the reason behind the death, he said, “We can’t say whether he died of taking liquor. But he died of any kind of poisoning.” Babul’s wife Dipali Begum said her husband used to gallop liquor. “But we don’t know whether he swallowed liquor on Wednesday night,” she said.
