Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has said Bangladesh adopted fast economic development policy by strengthening export oriented industries, reports BSS.
“Bangladesh achieved average six per cent GDP growth rate from 2004 to 2014,” he said while addressing a panel discussion organised on the sideline of the 16th meeting of the UNIDO’s Ministerial Conference in Austria, according to an official release here yesterday.
Held at Vienna International Centre yesterday, the panel discussion on “Fostering Trade Performance for Inclusive Growth and Employment” was moderated by former news presenter of CNN Todd Benjamin.
Amu said agricultural and export oriented industries including ready-made garments (RMG) and frozen industries have been playing an important role to achieve the average GDP (gross domestic product) growth rate.
He said the present government has been working relentlessly to make an entrepreneurs’ friendly environment by providing the services of information and communication technology to achieve the goals of becoming a middle income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041.
Among others, National Director of Better Works and Best Standard Programme (BBST) project Saleh Ahmed and Chief Scientific Officer of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) Mala Khan attended the occasion.
The meeting discussed the issues of international product safety and standard of labour and Bangladesh government adopted policy in this regard.
The speakers stressed on the need infrastructural development of the country aimed at sustained process of export in the sectors like ready-made garments, frozen industry and shrimp.
