Dhaka Dynamites begins its campaign today in Chittagong phase of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), as they take on high-flying Barisal Bulls in a bid to take a giant stride of confirming the last-four berth.
Both the team will start the match, with three wins in four matches and an intense fight is on the cards, given their recent form. Dhaka Dynamite harbored their ship as the last team among the franchisees in Chittagong yesterday evening.
Their skipper Kumar Sangakkara, who went to Sri Lanka on two-day vacation after winning the last encounter, is scheduled to join the team in Chittagong directly from Colombo. Besides Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Irfan- the tallest player of the world at present- is expected to arrive Bangladesh today to boost the bowling line-up of the Dynamites. He will be seen at this phase in the port city.
Athar Ali Khan, team manager of Dynamites, acknowledged the matter and said that they are now in Chittagong to play the second phase matches of the BPL.
“We’ve arrived in Chittagong. Sanga is all set to come here today. Along with that, Mohammad Irfan will come tomorrow,” said Athar Ali Khan.
“There is no major injury scare in the squad now. Mustafizur Rahman and Malcolm Waller are in good shape. Both played our last match in Dhaka,” he told The Independent.
The match between Dynamites and Bulls starts at 6.30 pm while the first match of the day will be played between Rangpur Riders and Chittagong Vikings, starting at 2 pm. Riders in the first-leg narrowly beat Vikings by two wickets.
Barisal Bulls arrived first in the port city and remained upbeat after their facile 33-run win over local team Chittagong Vikings. They showed a complete team performance in demolishing Vikings who was expected to win the match. Barisal’s depth at bowling would be a major concern for Dynamites. Barisal’s only problem was in its batting which cost them the game against Comilla Victorians which they lost by eight wickets. But the batting enigma seemed to have been rectified after the way they batted against Chittagong.
Their late surge after being reeled to a meager 63 for five, enabled them to amass a respectable 170 for seven and left Chittagong in such a shock state that they couldn’t recover from it. The Bulls scored 98 runs in its last seven overs, a testament which Dynamites should notice.
But Dynamites didn’t lack firepower in bowling like Chittagong. They have effective bowler in Mustafizur Rahman, Mosharraf Hossain Rubel, Yasir Shah, Nasir Hossain and Abul Hasan Raju. Therefore they could hope for the best.
The ZACS will host a total of eight matches in the second phase, out of 34 matches. But Dynamites will play only two matches, which will be played in consecutive two days.
On December 2, Dhaka Dynamites will next compete against Comilla Victorians, who suffered a great blow after their West Indian spinner Sunil Narine suspended by ICC for his illegal action following Marlon Samuels’ departure. It is mentionable that Victorians tasted their first defeat to Dynamites by six wickets in their opening clash.
