Sylhet finally break winning jinx

Ravi Bopara shined in with all-round performance as Sylhet Super Stars finally snapped its losing-streak by securing a four-wicket victory over Comilla Victorians at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium yesterday. Super Stars English recruit Bopara smashed 38 ball-50 before claiming four for 18 in bowling. His 87 runs off 51 for the third wicket with captain Mushfiqur Rahim was crucial in determining the course of the match after they were at 52 for two.  Mushfiqur Rahim who was stranded in the crease in Comilla’s consecutive two one-run defeat, blasted 47 off 31, including four fours and was dismissed when the side closed in on victory. Super Stars finally got over the line making 168 for six after Victorians posted a respectable 164 for five.
Even though Super Stars lost opener Mominul Haque (9) cheaply, Dilshan Munaweera provided the firepower that they needed at the beginning. However his dismissal on 36, created a chance to have an intriguing finish. Bopara quickly ended that speculation by batting with serenity. He was aptly supported by the captain who looked determine to break the losing-streak at any cost.
Victorians pacer Abu Haider Rony gave Super Stars an uncomfortable moment by taking out Bopara and Shehan Jayasuriya for the consecutive deliveries when they are three runs away from the victory. However Nazmul Hossain Milon struck a massive six to demolish Rony’s hope of claiming a hattrick as well as ensured the side’s victory.
Comilla’s much-vaunted bowling line-up looked off-colour in absence of Sunil Narine who was suspended from bowling by ICC after his action proved to be illegal. They also had no Marlon Samuels as he headed to join the West Indies team. But Ashar Zaidi did exactly what Samuels could do. Primarily a bowler, Zaidi smashed a fluent 36 ball-53 not out to give the innings an impetus after a rapid start by the openers- Liton Das and Imrul Kayes. He hit five fours and two sixes in his innings. Liton bounced back to form, hitting 42 off 24 and added 56 runs in just seven overs along with Kayes. After his departure, Victorians lost wickets in cluster before Kayes and Zaidi steadied the innings.  Liton smote one six and sent ball across the rope six times. Kayes made 45 ball-48 before being dismissed by Bopara in the 17th over. Zaidi gave Super Stars some lusty blows at the death to take the score in a comfort zone.
