There were tears in their eyes as 26 former citizens of Kotevajni enclave under Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district finally departed for India at 9.30am yetserday. They left from Debiganj College premises after completion of all formal arrangements. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Panchagarh, Golam Azom, had been apprised to see off the group of 26 people from Debiganj college premises and hand them over, along with all relevant papers, to Section Officer of Indian High Commissioner, Shailendra Kishor. And thus, 26 former enclave members became full-fledged Indian citizens on Monday. Responding to media persons, Golam said he is sorry if he has been wrong in any way and expressed hope that the 26 new Indian citizens would grow in their new-found country. Debiganj upazila nirbahi officer Md Safiqul Islam was also present at the occasion. So far, 452 former enclave citizens have gone to India in four batches on November 22, 23, 24 and 26. Their near and dear ones bid them a tearful goodbye on the day they left for India given the possibility that they would not be able to meet in the near future at least.
