14th ‘Dhaka Int’l Film Festival’ starts Jan 14

With the theme of ‘Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society’, the 14th ‘Dhaka International Film Festival’ (DIFF) will be held in Dhaka from January 14 to 22, 2016. Organised by Rainbow Film Society in association with the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, SIGNIS - Brussels, Reelport - Germany, the Edward M. Kennedy Center -Dhaka, the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh -ULAB, the festival is dedicated to introducing the mainstream global cinema to the local filmmakers as well as to promote a healthy cine culture within Bangladesh. 14th DIFF is co-sponsored by The International Finance Investment and Commerce (IFIC) Bank Limited and Media partner Channel- I and News Partner Ekattor TV.
Necessary preparatory work in this regard is already underway. During the 14th DIFF, organisers expect to screen approximately 170 films, with participation from approximately 55 countries. The festival will have a competition section for the Asian and Australian cinema and segment categories for: ‘Retrospective’,   ‘Cinema of the World’, ‘Children’s Film’, ‘Women Filmmakers’, ‘Short and Independent Films Section’, and ‘Spiritual Films Section’.
To disclose the above information and to make an official announcement for the 14th Dhaka International Film Festival, a press conference was held yesterday at the Dhaka Club Guest House Restaurant.
In the short span of twenty three years, DIFF has attained international recognition with thirteen festivals held in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. l
