Bengal Classical Music Fest concludes tonight

The fourth edition of the much-anticipated five-day long classical music festival in the country titled ‘Bengal Classical Music Festival (BCMF) 2015’ will be concluded today. For the last three years, the Bengal Classical Music Festival has been the largest classical music event in the subcontinent, showcasing performances from over two hundred classically trained singers and dancers. Today, on the concluding day of the festival, internationally-acclaimed flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia will give final performance of this year’s festival. Besides, other performances of the day will include Dhamar by Geetobitan Bangladesh (Animesh Bijoy Chowdhury and his team), Bharatanatyam by Vidushi Alarmel Valli, Surbahar by Ershad Khan, Khayal by Sameehan Kashalkar, Sitar by Ustad Shujaat Khan and Khayal by Ustad Rashid Khan.
On the third day of the festival, the first performance was Manipuri dance by Warda Rihab and her troupe. Next came on stage was professional Sarod player Yousuf Khan. Accompanied him on Tabla was Iftekhar Alam Prodhan. The third artiste to perform was the celebrated Indian classical vocalist of the Dhrupad genre, Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar.
The fourth performer to come on stage was violinist Dr N Rajam; her daughter Dr. Sangeeta Shankar and granddaughters Ragini Shankar and Nandini Shanker. The next performance was by Vidushi Shruti Sadolikar. Then, Guru Kadaikudi Mani came on stage with Carnatic ensemble. Vidushi Shubha Mudgal‘s Khayal performance was the last performance of the night. On the other hand, yesterday, the fourth day included performances by Guru Radha and Raja Reddy (dance Kuchipudi), Ganesh & Kumaresh Rajagopalan (instrumental Carnatic Violin Duo),  Pandit  Shivkumar Sharma (Santoor), Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar ( Sarod) , Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar (vocals Khayal), Ustad Zakir Hussain  (Tabla).
Today, the event will run from 7pm to 5am.
To note, this year’s festival has been dedicated to late noted artist Qayyum Chowdhury who died last year. l
