Ministers chide US on militant issue

STAFF REPORTER

Awami League ministers yesterday alleged that the USA is trying to enter Bangladesh saying that the Islamic State (IS) is present in this country.
They said a deep-rooted conspiracy is being hatched against the country in a bid to make it a failed state. There is no presence of the IS or any terrorist activity in the country.
The BNP-Jamaat alliance is part of the international conspiracy to brand the country a militant state, the leaders told a conference of imams and muazzins in the capital’s Kamrangichar area.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said a quarter with vested interest is trying to create division among the people on the ploy of the IS, and the conspiracy is being hatched with US patronisation. “Whenever an attack is launched in the country, within five minutes the USA-based monitoring organisation, SITE, reports that the IS is behind it. But there is no existence of the IS in the country. So, it is clear that an international conspiracy is being hatched against the country in a bid to make it a failed state,” the home minister said.
Food minister Quamrul Islam said the recent killings and terrorist attacks in the country are part of an international conspiracy to turn the country into a militant state.
“Those who had sent the Seventh Fleet during our Liberation War, are now hatching fresh conspiracy against us to make it a failed state,” he said.
The minister described the USA as the creator of all militant organisations, including the IS.
