A Bogra court yesterday placed three people on remand for their suspected link to a gun attack on a Shiite mosque that killed a muazzin at Shibganj upazila in Bogra on Thursday night. Bogra Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shyam Sundar Roy granted the remand after police placed the arrestees before his court with a 10-day remand plea for each. Anwar Hossen (48) and Jewel (25), who were arrested on Friday in a case filed over the incident, were placed on a seven-day remand each. The third man, Maolana Samsul Alam, 55, also the superintendent of Imdadul
Ulum Kaomi Madrassa, of Mokamtala under the district, was placed on a five-day remand by the court. Samsul was arrested along with three others early yesterday.
The other arrestees are Minhaj Mia, 18, son of Hafizar Rahman of village Gopinathpur, Shahinur Rahman, 21, and Rayhan Mia, 28, of village Amtoli. The four were arrested in a joint drive of RAB 12 and DB. Anwar Hossen (48) and Jewel (25) were arrested early Friday.
An armed attack by unidentified assailants on the Shiite mosque killed its 70-year-old muazzin Moazzem Hossain and injured three others on Thursday.
