Transparency over climate funding demanded in dists

Committee of the Concerned Citizen (CCC), the Chapainawabganj chapter of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), took out a procession and formed human chain in front of Chapainawabganj Press Club yesterday urging the industrially developed countries to fulfill their commitment towards climate funding and ensure transparency in use of this fund.
Speakers said Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries of the world as it is often battered by cyclone, flood, tidal surge, river erosion and drought due to the climate change.
Conference of the Parties (COP) is going to be held on November 30 in Paris. Speakers demanded compensation, not loan, from the industrially developed countries, which are more responsible for climate change and global warming.
They also demanded transparency, accountability and people’s participation in utilisation of the fund.
The procession was taken out from its office in the town and after parading the main roads of the town it ended in front of Chapainawabganj Press Club.
CCC member Umme Salma Happy read out the concept paper on the issue. Later, resident of Chapainawabganj Press Club Golam Mostofa Montu, Swajan oordinator of the CCC Noimul Bari, CCC vice presidents Gouri Chanda Situ and Golam Faruk Mithun and CCC members Advocate Saiful Islam Reza and NSM Mahbubur Rahman Mintu spoke on the occasion.
In Jamalpur, a human chain was formed in the town yesterday demanding fund as compensation fro the rich nation for the climate change.
Conscious Citizen Committee of the district unit arranged the hour-long programme in front of central Shaheed Minar in the town.
Speakers in the human chain said the industrially developed countries, which are liable for climate change in the world, should pay the compensation for it as grant, not loan.
 The human chain was addressed, among others, by CCC members, AAK Mahmudul Hassan, Advocate HR Zahid Anwar, Professor Masum Alam Khan and Sukumar Chowdhury.
