Bangladesh has been reelected as a “B” category council member of International Maritime Organisation(IMO) unopposed, reports BSS. Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said this yesterday after attending the 28th extraordinary council and the 29th assembly session of the IMO held in London, an official release said here yesterday. The main session of the IMO, a specialized body of the United Nations, began on November 23, it said, adding the 115th council session of the IMO was held apart from the extraordinary council and assembly sessions. Bangladesh, which got the IMO membership in 1976, has been elected IMO “B” category council member since 2003, the release said. Besides attending the IMO sessions, the shipping minister held meetings with the leaders of London chapter of Bangladesh Awami League.
