President urges social organisations

President Abdul Hamid yesterday urged the social organisations, including professional and regional ones, to supplement government efforts for regional development and social reform as the government alone cannot ensure overall development, reports UNB. "As a developing country, our government has many limitations. It's not possible for the government alone to ensure overall development. So, professional and regional and other social organisations can play an important role in regional development and social reform," he said.
The President said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Noakhali Utsav-2015 (Festival) at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city organised by Noakhali Zila Samity, Dhaka. "The mother is very much loved one to her children. Similarly, my birthplace, where I was born and brought up, is a very favourite place to me. So, we have some additional responsibilities for the birthplace," the President said. He went on saying, "The work, which is impossible to do unilaterally, can be done properly with the efforts of all. So, I think united efforts are very important. I urge all to do something good from their respective areas."
"Many well-known industrialists are present at today's programme who are the bright sons of Noakhali," said Abdul Hamid adding, "If you build an industry each in your area, then Noakhali will become an industrial belt. You can build a special economic zone in Noakhali with your united efforts. I firmly believe the government will extend its cooperation in this regard."
Mentioning that there is ample scope to turn Noakhali into a tourist attraction utilising the beauty and geographical location of Nijhum Dwip (island) , the President urged entrepreneurs to come forward to utilise the scope.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, MP, Noakhali Zila Samity general secretary Dr Mohammad Shamsul Haque also spoke at the programme with Noakhali Zila Samity president Sahab Uddin in the chair.
