Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif yesterday said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started building houses for 10 thousand homeless families, reports from Ishurdi. “The government is continuing rehabilitation of country’s homeless families and freedom fighters,” he said speaking as the chief guest at a function at Baraichara village after handing over houses built for insolvent freedom fighters. The minister said the government rehabilitated 60 thousand homeless people with land and houses from 2009 to 2013. “The government has kept it on in the current tenure too,” he added. Shamsur Rahman Sharif said the government has a plan to rehabilitate 5 lakh homeless people by 2020. “We have started building houses for all homeless people and it will be continuing,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s commitment that there will be no homeless people in the country. The Prime Minister is pledge-bound to fulfill five fundamental rights of the people, he said and urged all to help the government in its efforts. Ishurdi Upazila Chairman Mukhlesur Rahman Mintu, political leader and government officials were present at the function, among others.
