President urges students to keep student politics above greed

Jessore: President Abdul Hamid yesterday urged students to remain alert so that student politics cannot be tainted with any type of greed and narrow personal interest, reports UNB. “The student community of this country had made immense contributions to the great War of Independence and Language Movement. The nation is still remembering their contributions with respect. The nation expects that the students will keep on contributing to building the nation upholding the glorious tradition of the student community,” he said. Mentioning that the world is changing very fast and developing nations like Bangladesh are facing challenges due to revolutionary development of information technology, Hamid underscored the need for introducing world-standard curricula so that the students could cope with the international standard.
It depends on teachers whether their students will be turned into skilled human resources, observed the President adding, “I believe you (teachers) will continue your efforts through your knowledge and experience to transform the students into well-educated and skilled human resources.”
The President went on saying, “We have to keep in mind that all of us are responsible to the country and its people. The public universities are run with the money of people where our children study. So it is the duty of all to maintain the academic atmosphere and the image of the universities.” Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof Abdul Mannan, JUST VC Prof Md Abdus Sattar also spoke on the occasion. Former chairman of the UGC Prof AK Azad Chowdhury delivered the convocation speech. A total of 640 students received degrees at the convocation while 15 students were given gold medals for their outstanding performance.
