Jute production satisfactory in Mymensingh

The production of jute is satisfactory in the district this year. District Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said, a total of 11,878 tonnes of raw jute produced in 13 upazilas of the district this year, reports BSS. The upazilas are: Mymensingh Sadar, Muktagacha, Phulbaria, Trishal, Bhaluka, Gagargeon, Nandail, Ishwargonj, Gouripur, Fulpur, Tarakandha, Haluaghat and Dobaura. DAE sources said of the total production of jute 6, 522 tonnes in local variety 3,262 tonnes in Tussa variety, 1,681 tonnes in Kanaf variety 413 tonnes in Mesta variety. A total 8,175 hectares of land brought under jute cultivation this year in the district. DAE sources said BADC distributed quality seeds and other necessary inputs to jute growers for the cultivation. Necessary assistance and advices given by the department of Agriculture Extension, the jute farmers got satisfactory yields this year, the sources said.
