Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday expressed high hopes that Bangladesh will maintain the momentum of 8 per cent GDP growth in the next five years to attain the sustainable development goals, reports UNB.
He came up with the remarks participating in a panel discussion on ‘Mainstreaming Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development into the national economic policies and programmes’ at the 6th ministerial conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) being held in Vienna of Austria, said a press release.
The two-day meeting will end on Friday.
The industries minister said Bangladesh has formulated the 7th Five-Year Plan aiming to increase by 20 per cent employment opportunities in the manufacturing industries apart from increasing the contribution to the GDP by 21 percent to achieve the 8 percent GDP growth.
He also stressed the need for strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships among LDCs in a bid to achieve the goal of sustainable industrialisation.
Amu observed that the LDCs have the opportunities to achieve higher growth in the industrial sector by exchanging goods and services, knowledge, experience, technologies and invention among them.
