BSS

Chinese entrepreneurs have showed interest in large and medium scale investments in Bangladesh’s infrastructure and power sectors, reports BSS. A visiting business delegation of Zhejiang Province, China, at a meeting with the government team at a city hotel this morning ventilated their interest in investment.
The delegation is also assessing the investment scope and facilities in Bangladesh.
Talking to journalists, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Abdul Matlub Ahmad said the business delegation comprising 120 entrepreneurs were satisfied with the business and investment environment after having talks with government’s high ups- ministers and high officials.
“So, we can expect that a big investment is coming from Chinese entrepreneurs,” he said. The FBCCI president said Chinese businessmen want to make investment in power and energy sectors as well as infrastructure, especially road and expressway.
Bangladesh is the third largest business partner of China among the South Asian countries, and at the end of 2014, Chinese investment to Bangladesh reached US$ 12.5 billion. Later, China-Bangladesh Business and Trade Investment Conference started to explore further trade and investment potentials between the two countries.
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Executive Chairman of Board of Investment Dr S A Samad, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of Zhejiang Provincial Committee Chen Yanhua and FBCCI president Abdul Matlub Ahmad were present at the inauguration.
Speaking on the occasion, the planning minister called upon the Chinese businessmen to invest more in Bangladesh availing facilities being offered by the government to foreigners.
“We want to turn Bangladesh into a developed country and towards the journey, we are encouraging more foreign investment,” he added.
Terming the human resource as the main strength of Bangladesh towards development, Mustafa Kamal said: “We will continue our progress depending on the human resource, and the foreign entrepreneurs could also avail the scope of availability of manpower.”
In next 35 years, three countries on the globe including Bangladesh would maintain, on an average, nearly 5 per cent growth, he observed.
Highlighting the development scenarios in different sectors of Bangladesh, the minister said:
“Our main goal is to establish a knowledge-based economy, and we are working relentlessly to attain the goals”.
Mustafa Kamal said that as a true and trusted friend, China was always beside Bangladesh for its development and he hoped it will continue to do so in future.
