For the first time, municipal poll aspirants will have to submit a copy of their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate, along with other papers, while filing their nomination. The elections will be held on December 30.
All aspirants, whether they are nominated by political parties or are contesting as independent, will also have to submit signatures of 100 voters as proof of support.
Other requirements are a copy of the last receipt of income tax returns, a certified copy of the highest educational qualification certificate, accounts of probable sources of funds for campaigning and a copy of the treasury challan or pay order of a scheduled bank or a postal order of the deposit money.
Election Commission secretary, Md Sirajul Islam, confirmed to The Independent that submission of a certified copy of the TIN has been made mandatory for the first time.
