Dhaka Dynamites bounced back to winning ways in style, having sealed a facile six-wicket victory over Chittagong Vikings yesterday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The bowlers laid the foundation of the overwhelming victory, shooting Vikings out for paltry 92 in 18.3 overs. In a wicket that became slower as the time went on, the Dynamites batsmen batted sensibly, yet with sustained aggression to gun down the target with 17 balls to spare.
Shykat Ali and Sadman Islam, the two youngsters opened the batting for Dhaka Dynamites, a team owned by country’s leading business conglomerate Beximco Limited, and gave the side a high flying start, combining for 45 runs in six overs. The partnership made the chase a cake-walk to secure their second victory in third match. Shafiul Islam broke the stubborn partnership as Shykat, on 23, holed out a length delivery to long-on. Sadman Islam struck 45, highest score of his team before he was dismissed two runs away from the victory. Captain Kumar Sangakkara ensured the victory with a boundary. Leaking runs in abundance, didn’t help Dynamites’ cause in the second match against Rangpur Riders in which they lost by 69 runs. The bowlers rectified their mistakes and came back to their supreme best in the space of just 24 hours.
Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman led the charge claiming three for 14, producing a gem of pace bowling. Off-spinner Nasir Hossain, also the icon of the side, complemented him with as many wickets but gave away just 12 runs. Nasir choked the Chittagong batting line up which exceeded 170 plus in the previous three matches and proved them the powerful batting unit among the six teams in the tournament. Tamim Iqbal was instrumental in Chittagong’s big score in those three matches. For the first time in the tournament, the dashing opener looked off-colour with being scratchy in his nine-ball stay. Abul Hasan Raju ended his uneasy stay as he flicked one to wicket-keeper. He is seemingly unhappy with the umpire’s decision, making a point that the ball didn’t touch his bat. Tamim’s dismissal began the rot. Tillkaratne Dilshan generated some powerful shots in the sluggish wicket before left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain Rubel trapped him leg-before for 20. Mustafizur and Nasir then in joint-venture strangled Chittagong batting line up in a well-disciplined bowling effort. Naeem Islam held the innings together but stranded on 29 not out, watching his colleagues’ meek surrender to the bowers.
