Two more testify in Kibria murder case

A court here yesterday recorded testimonies of two more witnesses in the former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case. The court also fixed December 2 and 3 for the next recording of testimonies. Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal judge Mokbul Ahsan recorded the testimonies of two people. A total of 171 people will give their depositions in the sensational murder case, according to Kisur Kumar Kor, a public prosecutor of the tribunal. On September30, the tribunal also started recording testimony of former lawmaker of Habiganj-2 and plaintiff of the case Abdul Mozid Khan.  Earlier on September 13, the court framed charges against BNP leaders Lutfozzaman Babar and Harris Chowdhury and 30 others in the case.
Former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar and sacked Sylhet city mayor Ariful Haq Chowdhury were produced before the court among the others during the hearing. On January 27, 2005, five people, including Kibria, were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a public rally of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sadar upazila of Habiganj district.
After the incident, Awami League leader Abdul Mozid Khan MP filed two cases--  one for murder and another under the Explosives Substances Act-- with Habiganj Police Station on the following day. Later Assistant Superintendent of Criminal Investigation Department Munshi Atique submitted a charge sheet against 10 BNP leaders and activists on March 19, 2005. On 20 June, 2011, CID Senior Assistant Superintendent Rafiqul Islam submitted a supplementary charge sheet incorporating the names of 14 more people, including Lutfozzaman Babar and banned Harkat-ul Jihad-al-Islami, Bangladesh (HuJI) leader Mufti Abdul Hannan.
