Khaleda to decide on BNP participation

BNP senior leaders yesterday night entrusted party chairperson Khaleda Zia with the responsibility to finalise the decision whether the party will join the Dec 30 municipality elections or not, reports UNB.
After a marathon meeting of the BNP senior leaders with Khaleda at her Gulshan office, party spokesman Asaduz­zaman Ripon informed reporters about the decision at a press briefing.
“The meeting elaborately discussed the municipality elections. No decision about the matter has been finalised yet. The responsibility for working out a strategy and finalise the decision about taking part in the municipality elections has been bestowed upon our chairperson Khaleda Zia,” he said.
Asked when she may disclose her decision, Ripon said, “As per the schedule, the filing of nomination has already started. Still, there’re some days for the deadline to expire for nomination submission. She’ll surely come up with her decision before the expiry of the deadline.” Ripoin said various issues relating to municipality polls, country's latest political situation, organisational activities, party overhauling and party's council came up for discussion at the meeting that bean around 9pm.
He said party senior leaders give their own opinions both in favour of participating in the election and boycotting it. "The chairperson gave them a patient hearing. Now she'll evaluate their opinions and take her decision about it."
It was  Khaleda's first meeting with her party's leaders since her return from London after over two months of stay there.
